Introductions: Alexis Chapman, herbalist

One of my goals as a labor and postpartum doula is to connect women with resources and support for the childbearing year.  There is so much information out there and it can be overwhelming sometimes to sift through all the books and articles and magazines.  My vision for this blog is to develop a community of regular guest bloggers from various health and wellness professions to share their experience and passion for birth women with all of you.

I am so pleased to introduce our first guest blogger, Alexis Chapman.  Alexis is an herbalist, birth doula, and founder of Worts & Cunning Apothecary. Worts & Cunning Apothecary was started in hopes of providing quality, handmade herbal products to her community. The Apothecary is currently based in Portland, ME but has a tendency to up and move.

Alexis is in a constant process of learning from her community in all of its various manifestions – plants, friends, family, lovers, animals, and creatures undefined. The foundation of her work is the recognition that the sacred resides beyond, between, and within all of us. When she is not in the process of concocting a new brew, potion or charm, she can be found riding around town on her bike, Raven Rae, filming videos for Vibrant Maine, running about the soccer field, mucking around her tiny urban garden or whatever else that catches her attention.

She hopes to bring to the Cascadia Birth Services blog stories about the greening ones, herbs and other plant medicines, that are particularly useful during conception, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.  For a taste of what’s to come, check out her most recent article, on brewing a great cup of tea.  Next time, she’ll share some tips on making tea for two!
