Birth doula

At the heart of our doula support, we hold a protective space around the mother, collaborating with her partner to support her physical and emotional needs, empowering her to continue through the challenging periods during labor, and preserving the memories of her experience so she can completely surrender to the experience of the birth.

We are guided by our unwavering belief that birth is a normal process, one that encompasses both a physical and emotional transition on the journey to becoming a parent. We are here to support you as you embark on this journey.

What exactly is the role of a doula?

Your Unique Journey

As trained and experienced doulas, we feel comfortable and confident guiding parents through the journey of LaborLand. We hope that in the process of getting to know each other during our prenatal visits, we can help you cultivate a sense of trust in both the birth process and your innate strengths, while nurturing the physical and emotional flexibility to navigate the unpredictability of birth.

We believe that there is no one “right way” to birth, and we see our role as helping our clients discover and articulate for themselves how they envision their birth process unfolding. We’ll make sure you have all the information you need to make informed decisions about possible interventions and newborn care.

Developing a Birth Team

We spend a lot of time in our prenatal visits getting to know not only the mother, but her partner or support person as well.  While our area of expertise is birth, partners bring their own expertise knowledge and loving connection with their partner, which is equally essential for a mother to feel supported during birth.  We include partners as much as they desire, and to encourage open communication from the very beginning.

We also view ourselves as collaborators with your health care team, including midwives, OB’s and nurses.  We are trained to communicate effectively, serving as an unbiased, non-judgmental link between you and your care providers.  If there’s a change in plans, we help make sure everyone feels heard, with the ultimate goal that you will feel completely supported and empowered in your decision-making process. We are able to communicate needs, and benefits, risks, and alternatives however it is not in our scope of practice to give advice or make decisions on behalf of the mother baby or family.
