Blessingway ceremonies

Imagine a circle of close family and friends honoring your passage to motherhood with laughter, ritual and blessings…imagine carrying that love with you as you birth your baby into the world.

What is a Blessingway?

These non-denominational rituals, usually organized and planned by a close friend or family member of the pregnant mother, are designed to prepare women for the spiritual and emotional work of labor and motherhood, and are not your typical baby showers.

Instead, those gathered create ritual space together to honor the extraordinary journey that this new mother is about to take. The love and support that she receives during her ceremony will be a gift that she carries with her throughout her labor and into her new role of mother.

No two Blessingways will be the same, and regardless of your religious or spiritual belief, or even if you claim no faith or spiritual practice at all, a Blessingway can be created to deepen your connection to this powerful transition to motherhood.

We are available to guide Blessingway organizers as you:

  • brainstorm Blessingway themes
  • plan and write rituals
  • organize activities such as belly casting, henna, massage and footbaths
  • coordinate gifts for the mother-to-be

We also:

  • assist in food planning and preparation, and provide referrals to local caterers
  • offer coaching and support for those leading the ritual itself

Birth is a key life passage for women. But modern culture has become preoccupied with the arrival of the baby-to-be and has lost touch with birth’s profound impact on the expectant mother. While our most common birth preparations focus on getting women physically ready to give birth, the blessingway ceremony helps a woman to prepare mentally, emotionally, and spiritually for the work of birthing, and it opens her to her instinctive abilities, which will guide her as she steps into the role of mother.
